Just wanted to say a quick thanks for sorting the works at Tracerco in such short notice. Very impressed with the competence of your guys on site!
Senior Project Engineer, Vaughan Engineering Limited
Please find below an email communication from our head of health and safety to our Directors commending the actions of your SSS during yesterday visit. I have worked for Willmott Dixon seven years and this is the first time I have ever received such communication relating to a SSS, which goes to show the high standards that Mick is currently setting on site. I would like thank yourself and Mick for his efforts and positive attitude towards health and safety and our beliefs.
Senior Building Manager, Willmott Dixon Construction Limited
On behalf of Sir Robert McAlpine can I pass on our praise to you, your management team, site supervisor Robert Brewis and your operatives for the professional and diligent manner in which they are presently carrying out the demolition works in both Greys Quarter and Unit 10-14. The attitude of your site team is exemplary in due notice to safe working practice and this has been consistent with Thompsons’ approach whilst working at Eldon Square over the past 8 years. This is a credit to you and the company. On that note I would also wish to pass on my own thanks for the continued cooperation and approach applied by Thompsons, as we enter the final phase of the redevelopment plan at Eldon Square and look forward to successfully completing this final phase.
Project Manager, Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd
I am writing to you as a resident of Newcastle Upon Tyne to congratulate your company on the first class job you did with the demolition of The Chandless tower blocks, Gateshead. As an urban project this demolition task must have presented huge logistical and practical problems as the towers were situated in close proximity to an urban fly-over and a social housing estate. As a resident of neighbouring Newcastle and someone who uses the fly-over regularly I was impressed with the speed at which the project was undertaken and the minimum disruption to local roads and traffic. On completion of the project I was impressed by the how tidy the site was left, with no rubbish or debris apparent in the locality. Also, as a former occupational health nurse with experience in industry, I can appreciate the problematic nature of removing large amounts of asbestos.
I wanted to write and thank you for an excellent service. The team that you sent to our property were very diligent and kept the site in a clean and safe manner at all times. It has resulted in us having a fantastic start to a project that has been a long time coming.
MD, Patrick Parsons
It goes without saying that the work commitment and attention to detail has been exemplary on this project. The contract itself has been demanding and with your help we achieved our goal for the end user, the statement below from the client makes it seems all worthwhile.
Just dropping you a line to say how impressed I am with the squad of lads you have on site. The safe way they have been working also the speed they have carried out their work bringing the job in ahead of schedule.
The open and flexible nature of dealing with Thompsons of Prudhoe has led to us negotiating similar contracts directly. Thompson’s proactive attitude continued with subsequent contracts, with these again being delivered on budget and within agreed programme dates.
Principal, Blyth & Blyth
I would like to ask you to ensure that your Supervisor remains on site at Grimsby until all our demolition works are completed to limit the possibility of any handover issues. He has done, and continues to do, an outstanding job on Phase 2,3 & 5 and with the potential for phase 4/expansion of phase 5 his knowledge of our systems & how we work will help the stability from the demolition side. I do appreciate I am being cheeky but what can I say other than you spoilt us giving us the best!
Demolition & Decommissioning Manager, Bluestar
Thompsons of Prudhoe undertook demolition, on and off-site recycling, earthworks and site preparatory works representing major enabling works as part of the Trinity Square Development, a £150m mixed use development by Spenhill the regeneration arm of Tesco Stores. Works were let over a number of contracts and the site activities were phased over a period of 4 years from 2008 until 2012. The cumulative value of the works undertaken by Thompsons’ was £2.4m. At all times, Thompsons’ adhered to their contractual obligations, undertook works in a competent and expeditious way and comfortably met all completion dates for the various phases of works. Their site management team were mindful of the sensitivity of the town centre location and challenges that this presented and were supported by senior management and visiting health & safety personnel. Thompsons’ fully co-operated with the projected team and third parties throughout their works. Their performance through the phases of work at Trinity Square was exemplary and they provided a valued contribution to the success of the overall project.

Although I’ve used Thompsons quite a few times I felt I had to write to you with respect to the demolition works that have been carried out at Newcastle Station. The way your supervisor worked initially within the busy staff areas and removing the material along live platforms was well managed and noise and dust was kept to a minimum. The only issue we ever had was a couple of complaints about a small amount of dust which, I thought, in the circumstances was excellent. Special thanks will have to go for the way he managed the demolition of the old travel centre in the middle of the station. He carried out the works safely and always came up with solutions to any issues. The constraints put upon him and his team were many and he worked within them without fail. There was not one time that I received complaints from members of the public or from the station staff. This item of work was identified as one of the riskiest areas of work on this contract and the fact that it went so well is testament to him and his team.

With your help we now have a base to fund our second festival which will be the weekend of 30/31 May 2015. There will be 14 age groups with 140 teams taking part, and in another initiative we’ve decided that we will make the Sunday afternoon a ‘Girls Day’ to promote Girl’s football in the Cumbria area. We hope that this will attract Girls clubs from all over the North East, Cumbria, Scotland and Lancashire; to make this the most significant Girls football competition in Carlisle. All this has been made possible by your help and thank you once again for your support
Secretary, Thompsons Juniors FC, Carlisle
Just a note to thank you for your support last Saturday night opening your concrete plant & delivering concrete to Fawdon Metro level crossing. An excellent all round service. Well managed before, during and after the nightshift trackside operation. Your staff on the night were very professional & provided the required support to help us complete the operation successfully. The concrete you supplied was installed to provide support to a new Overhead Line Mast.
Infrastructure Works Production Manager, Capital Delivery, Nexus Rail
If even only half the people I have dealings with, in a capacity similar to your position, were anywhere near as efficient my life would be so much less stressful, and nowhere near as time consuming lol. I would like to formally reiterate my gratitude to you for the excellent organization and implementation that led to the phenomenally rapid and smooth removal of the waste from Kingmoor. To uplift (essentially) 3000 tonnes in under four days is not only a credit to both yourself & the drivers concerned, but also to the reputation of W&M Thompson Quarries. Network Rail have already commended me for a job well done, and the excellent service provided – all of which would not have been possible without the invaluable assistance of Thompsons and, in particular, the key individuals that proved instrumental in it all coming together so successfully.
Drivers have been very professional and helpful many thanks for your assistance.
I had previously contacted Thompsons of Prudhoe concerning the supply of a 75 to 40 mm clean stone. We were advised that the concrete could also be supplied by Thompsons of Prudhoe. The start date for our wall was delayed due to some unexpected site issues. Thompsons of Prudhoe accommodated this and agreed to hold their prices at the originally quoted rates. We mobilised to site to be advised that only half the wall was available on that visit. Again Thompsons of Prudhoe accommodated this change. Finally we mobilised back to site on the 15th September to complete the wall. At short notice, deliveries of the remaining concrete commenced the next day. Thompsons of Prudhoe managed to accelerate our original delivery schedule and the foundations were completed in two days. In summary, the service from Thompsons of Prudhoe both in regard of the concrete and stone deliveries has been excellent. We would happily contact the company again should we return to the area.

Can I congratulate the Nuvia/Thompson’s of Prudhoe team for another successfully executed demolition project at Sellafield. Given the challenges faced by the weather, the Christmas break, the space restrictions and the unusual waste processing/disposal ops, it makes the performance even more impressive. The alliance continue to raise their bar on their demolition tasks.
Construction Manager, Sellafield Demolition Group
Just a quick note of thanks for the groundworks your team recently completed at the factory in Birtley. Despite a very tight deadline and at very short notice, the project was completed to very high standards and to everyone’s satisfaction. Everyone who has seen and used the new facilities (including the President of Komatsu), have been very impressed. Please pass on our thanks and appreciation to all the team involved.
Product Manager, Komatsu UK
I am the safety manager for Kier North Tyneside, who as you know are carrying out refurbishment works to Monkwearmouth Hospital, Sunderland. We are using Thompsons as a sub-contractor and I visited site today for a safety visit. The site team were second to none and your GF was singled out as being a credit to you and your company. He was helpful, pro-active and in the site managers words, “a pleasure to work with”. We too often beat people up with the safety stick so I thought it only fair to praise where it is due.
Safety Manager, Kier North Tyneside
Can I at this point state how courteous and helpful the contractors doing the demolition were – they were a model in their attempts to minimise any inconvenience? I wonder if this could be passed on to the relevant parties.
