We’re proud to introduce Chloe, who has made history as our very first female demolition operative!
At just 25 years old, Chloe decided it was time for a career change. Unhappy in her previous job as a dog walker, she felt lost and unsure of her next step. After a conversation with her stepdad, who also works for us, Chloe was inspired to consider a more practical, hands-on career that would keep her outdoors—a lifestyle she’s always valued.
Although she had no prior experience in the industry, Chloe had grown up around people passionate about their roles in construction. With their encouragement and her own determination, she wasted no time. Within a few days, she was booked onto her CCDO Demolition Labourer & Asbestos Awareness Course, passed her touch screen test and gained her CSCS card. On September 30th, Chloe joined our team and has been making waves ever since!
Chloe is currently working on our demolition project for Bowmer & Kirkland in Newcastle, where we’re taking down 18 student accommodation buildings. Her day-to-day work includes soft stripping each building in preparation for demolition and “stick picking” after the buildings come down, ensuring that as much material as possible is recycled. Chloe loves the fast pace and variety her role offers, as well as being outdoors and constantly on the move.
Despite the physical demands of demolition, Chloe hasn’t let stereotypes or assumptions hold her back. “I think others might wonder how a woman will manage in such a hands-on, demanding role,” she said, “but I’ve had nothing but support from the team. Everyone has been so welcoming, and it’s an incredible environment to work in.”
Balancing her career and personal life, Chloe especially values how her job allows her to leave work at work, so she can spend quality time with her daughter. She hopes to inspire her little one to explore the industry someday, saying, “This is the perfect place for someone outgoing who loves trying new things!”
Chloe has big ambitions for her future at Thompsons. She’s already booked onto an IPAF course in December and is eager to continue progressing within the company. Her advice to other women considering a career in demolition? “Go for it! The only challenge is figuring out how to manage your hair under the hard hat!”
We’re thrilled to have Chloe on board and can’t wait to see her continue to thrive in this role. Welcome to the Thompsons family, Chloe—you’re paving the way for others and showing that demolition is a space for everyone.
