CLIENT: MORRISONS UTILITY SERVICES
PROJECT: RIVER AIRE PIPE BRIDGE, SHIPLEY
In 2019 Thompsons were appointed by Morrison Utility Services to undertake the decommissioning of a pipe bridge located over the River Aire in Shipley. The bridge was constructed of reinforced concrete and housed an abandoned 10” cast iron water main.
The project involved significant planning and preparation works including the liaison and approval of all Environment Agency paperwork to allow the project to commence. Due to the location of the bridge, there was a huge environmental risk of the bridge and/or debris falling into the River Aire if not delivered successfully.
Provisions were put in place such as sheeted scaffolding protection, crash decks and supports to local banksides.
The scope included the requirement to carry out heavy lifts using a series of cranes. This element was subcontracted to our crane partner Ainscough, under the full supervision and management of Thompsons of Prudhoe Project Team.
Thompsons successfully delivered the works within a 3-month programme.
Thompsons subsequently received high praise and recognition from the Client for this Project.
“I would just like to say what a pleasure it’s been to have Thompson’s as my contractor. The professionalism of all your workforce is second to none. No accidents, no complaints and no fuss. From site safety and hard work to paperwork it has been an absolute pleasure working with you” ……… Morrison Utilities Site Manager.
