Thompsons of Prudhoe Shortlisted for Collaboration in Demolition Award

We’re proud to announce that Thompsons of Prudhoe has been shortlisted for the Collaboration in Demolition Award at the World Demolition Awards 2026 for the demolition of the former Coursington, Allan and Draffen Towers in Motherwell.

The multi-million pound project was delivered in close partnership with North Lanarkshire Council, Perses and Precision Demolition Company, bringing together specialist knowledge and experience to overcome an exceptionally complex set of challenges.

Through extensive collaboration, planning and technical assessment, the project team developed a safe strategy that ultimately saw all three 20-storey towers successfully demolished by controlled explosive blowdown on 7 December 2025.

The result was a project completed on programme, on budget and with zero accidents or incidents, while neighbouring properties – including homes just metres from the towers – remained undamaged.

This recognition is particularly significant because collaboration was at the heart of the project from beginning to end, with the client, principal contractor, principal designer and specialist subcontractors operating as one integrated team. We now look forward to the World Demolition Awards in Madrid on 5 November where the winner will be announced.
