Motherwell demolition blowdown successfully completed

We’re pleased to confirm the successful blowdown of the Allan, Coursington and Draffen Towers in Motherwell on Sunday 7th December 2025. The three 20-storey blocks were brought down in a single controlled explosion, completed in just 15 seconds.

The demolition forms part of North Lanarkshire Council’s wider regeneration plans and followed months of detailed preparation to ensure everything was carried out safely and precisely. In total, 4,120 charges and 135kg of explosives were used to bring the structures down, leaving around 20,000 tonnes of material to be processed.

This was a challenging and highly technical demolition due to the buildings’ rare tensioning system, and Thompsons of Prudhoe delivered it with professionalism and expertise. We congratulate the team on a safe and successful project.
