Hexham House Project Shortlisted for Constructing Excellence North East Award

The successful blow down of Hexham House has been shortlisted in the Delivering Value category at the Constructing Excellence North East (CENE) Awards 2024.

This recognition highlights the outstanding collaboration between Thompsons of Prudhoe, our client Newcastle City Council, and project partners Precision Demolition, Hatton Traffic Management, MTL Scaffolding, and Summers Inman.

The project stands as a shining example of value-based decision-making, where safety, environmental impact, and community wellbeing were prioritised over cost. Our client’s vision focused on delivering a safe and disruption-free project, protecting surrounding properties and minimising inconvenience for the local community.

Our team engaged with 18 diverse stakeholder groups, including 186 residential properties, local businesses, and community centres—ensuring clear, consistent communication throughout. Advanced technologies like infrared screening were used to safeguard residents, many of whom remained in their homes during the process.

The successful blow down not only marked a technical achievement but also became a memorable moment for the local community. With live TV and radio coverage, thousands gathered to witness the event, and local children even competed for the honour of pressing the ‘big button.’

This milestone project clears the way for the regeneration of Walker, paving the path for 50 new affordable and energy-efficient homes—a key step toward urban renewal in the area.

Congratulations to everyone involved. We look forward to celebrating the best in the North East construction industry this June!
