The planning application for the works at Crawcrook Quarry has now been submitted to Gateshead Council to determine if planning permission should be granted for the development.

You can make comments to the Council on this application. They will consider your comments when determining whether to grant planning permission, or not, for this development. You can let them know your comments through their website (click on the link above and then click on the ‘Comments’ tab). If you scroll down there is a form that you can fill in to leave you comments. These comments will go to the Case Officer at the Council.

Please note – the video that is attached above was finalised in the summer of last year. Since this video was completed the ‘red line’ that defines the application was changed to reflect the discussions with Officers. This is to include a pipeline that links the old landfill area with the leachate plant* that is already on site and to include land to the south of the site. Consequently, there is a different ‘red line’ application site on this video to the one shown on the planning application documents. However, this doesn’t change the fundamentals of the scheme i.e. restoration of the old quarrying voids in the site with imported inert materials and the proposed location of the new access road.

What happens now?
The Council will consult a range of organisations on the application as well as residents. The organisations that they will consult are listed on their website. They will consider all the responses from the organisation, and members of the public and, as necessary, ask the usfor additional information to address queries and clarify any other matters.
*Leachate is the contaminated water that is produced when rain water seeps through domestic waste that is tipped into a landfill. This contaminated water has to be collected in wells at the base of the site and then pumped to the leachate plant. From the leachate plant, it is pumped into the sewer.
