Thompsons of Prudhoe celebrates International Safety Award

We’re delighted to announce that Thompsons of Prudhoe has once again been recognised for its outstanding commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing in the workplace by receiving a Distinction in the International Safety Awards from the British Safety Council.

This achievement marks our second consecutive year receiving a Distinction, with awards for our Port of Blyth Decommissioning Facility in 2024 and Hexham House demolition project, Newcastle, in 2025.

We’re especially proud to share that this year saw 1,251 applications and we are honoured to be among those awarded the highest level of recognition.

These awards are a testament to the high standards we uphold across all of our sites. The International Safety Awards honour organisations that go above and beyond to prevent workplace injuries and work-related ill health. They also recognise those who champion employee wellbeing and mental health – values we hold at the heart of everything we do.

Receiving a Distinction highlights not only the quality of work being delivered, but also the competence and professionalism of our teams on the ground.

Chris Dobson, Health and Safety Director, said “I’m delighted that once again Thompsons of Prudhoe have been awarded with a Distinction in the British Safety Council International Safety Awards for 2025. This is only our second application and to be awarded two Distinction’s in a row is fantastic. This award is a testament to the safety culture of our site teams, the hard-working ethos of our EHS team along with the commitment of the company management and Directors.

“This award once again recognises our commitment to excellent standards of health, safety and wellbeing management. It allows us to demonstrate our dedication to creating safer, healthier workplaces. To be awarded with an award at an international level helps show the commitment, hard work, and dedication of our teams.”

Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of British Safety Council, congratulated Thompsons of Prudhoe on their success in winning an International Safety Award 2025 with a Distinction: “Our winners have clearly made substantial and ongoing efforts to protect and improve the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone in their organisations. All the winners, and those who were shortlisted, have gone the extra mile in terms of dedicating additional time, resources and commitment to ensuring their work, teams and workplaces remained healthy and safe during 2024. I would also like to say thank you to all the organisations who took time to apply for these awards and to our panel of judges who volunteered to adjudicate them.

“It is our vision at the British Safety Council that no-one should be injured or made ill through their work – anywhere in the world. By sharing the achievements of the winners of these awards, we can inspire other employers everywhere to follow their lead and give workers’ health, safety and wellbeing the priority it rightly deserves.

“The long list of winners of the International Safety Awards, demonstrates that a significant number of companies recognise that effective management of health and safety risks is a business growth enabler, benefiting not just employees, but organisations and wider society. By celebrating the achievements of the 789 winners of the 2025 International Safety Awards and over six decades of improving health and safety standards around the world, we encourage other organisations to adopt this approach and place employees’ health, safety and wellbeing at the core of their business.”

At Thompsons of Prudhoe, safety isn’t just a box to tick – it’s a culture we live by. This recognition inspires us to continue raising the bar and delivering excellence in every project.

Here’s to continued success and a huge thank you to all our teams who make achievements like this possible.
