Thompsons of Prudhoe have recently taken on a new in take of 6 apprentices across the group; at Thompsons we feel it is important to invest in future talent.

Our Demolition and Earthmoving apprentices continue to grow with the first newly qualified apprentices due to graduate from CITB Bircham Newton Construction College (2 year course) in 2015, the course has been specifically designed with close consultation with the demolition industry and offers all aspects of plant operations/demolition & health and safety. The course combines residential training for both theory and practical along with real working site experiences with Thompsons and continuous assessment throughout. Our new apprentices are currently on the waiting list, in the mean time they have been successful in gaining the CSCS/CCDO site card and have now broke ground in the working world, they have been appointed a mentor, one of our experienced Supervisor’s/Foreman.

Last year we recruited for the first time a HEAVY Plant Mechanic Apprentice who is currently studying at Askham-Bryan College in YORK with continuous assessment whilst benefiting from onsite training and mentoring. We have appointed an HGV Mechanic Fitter who shall be studying at Gateshead College, along with working in our busy workshop gaining real experience and mentoring from our skilled fitters. Next year Thompsons of Prudhoe shall be introducing an award “Thompsons of Prudhoe Apprentice of the Year” we shall consult closely with all the mentors who have an apprentice in their charge.
