CN-SPECIALIST-AWARDS_2017-FINALISTThe deconstruction of Merrion House in Leeds by Thompsons of Prudhoe Ltd has been selected by the judges as a finalist in the Project under £1Million category of the 2017 Construction News Specialists Awards – the only national awards that recognise the best specialist contractors from across the whole of the UK.

10 storey Merrion House sits in the centre of Leeds on a very busy traffic thoroughfare to two sides, in a vibrant shopping and leisure area and adjoins Morrisons’ Supermarket which had to remain undisturbed throughout.

Merrion House BackThe deconstruction works involved asbestos removal, soft strip, concrete cutting, drilling and fixing of specially sourced lifting eyes, scaffolding and edge protection erection, use of remote robotic machines, craneage operations and full deconstruction back to the concrete shell, including completely opening up the roof and plant room removal to allow further building above.

To decide the winners, all finalists will attend face-to-face judging by members of the 56-strong jury, drawn from some of the UK’s largest construction firms and the leaders of the country’s major projects.

The Construction News Specialists Awards are the only national awards celebrating the very best specialist contractors in the UK.  With 18 targeted categories, the awards ensure that whatever size or specialism there is an appropriate avenue to showcase the achievements of specialist contractors.

The winners will be announced on 22 March 2017 at a glamorous ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
